Is lifetime alimony ever a good idea? (maybe for those receiving it!)
So my boss was in town this week & during my brief meeting with him he told me that he was going through a divorce. The guy makes boatloads of money, so his divorce is not the easiest of divorces (it's so much easier to get divorced when you have no kids and you're poor!). During our conversation, he told me that he will be required to pay lifetime alimony. I felt really bad for the guy. While he makes tons of money now, lifetime alimony will require him to continue to make that kind of money forever and ever. No early retirement. That's a lot of stress!
As soon as my meeting was over with him, I took immediate steps to spread the new gossip (oh how I love gossip!). I instant messaged my good friend, telling her that our boss was being required to pay lifetime alimony. "Good for her!" was her response. That totally caught me off guard. Being a hard working independend woman, I find it surprising that other women like me would agree with somene being entitled to get paid for the rest of their lives to sit on their asses. I work VERY hard for my money! I definately would not want to be required to hand a portion of that over to someone so that they won't need to work for a living!
What do you think?
